This set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard holds parts in etched metal sheet intended for working up the internal sections of a model of the North American P-51D-15 Mustang fighter in 1:32 scale. The focus on the interior is given in the name itself — the set is therefore aimed at the cockpit and the internal fit-out, as against the exterior set of the same range. It is not a kit but an accessory to a model you already have.
The P-51D is the most widespread version of the Mustang — a teardrop canopy, a cut-down rear fuselage decking and a supercharged V12 engine. The D-15 designation belongs to one of the production blocks of this version. The cockpit of the Mustang is comparatively tight and uncluttered, but in the large 1:32 scale practically all of it is visible with the canopy open, so injection-molded plastic with coarsely suggested instruments and harnesses is distracting there. That is exactly where photo-etched parts have the greatest effect.
Finish and paint the interior before you close the fuselage — once it is glued you will not reach into the cockpit again. Cut the parts off with a scalpel on a hard surface and make the folds on a bender or between two razor blades. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue applied with a pin; on larger areas a slow-setting glue helps, so that you have time to line the part up. Degrease the metal parts and go over them with a primer. Photo-etched safety harnesses look better if you bend them gently over a round object before gluing — a stiff, straight strap looks unnatural.
The set is an accessory to a kit, not a model in its own right. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Before you buy, check the match with the model you are building.
