Universal masking stencils for an airbrush with a motif of tire prints. They do not belong to any particular kit: the name gives the scales 1:35, 1:32 and 1:48, in which the tread pattern matches the size of ordinary military equipment. The stencil serves to create a legible track left by a vehicle on the surface of a diorama, in mud, in snow or directly on the surface of a model. It is precisely a track in the ground that gives a scene movement: it reveals where the machine came from and where it went.
Lay the stencil on the surface and hold it down over its whole area, so that paint does not run under the edge. Spray with thinned paint at low pressure, at right angles and in several light coats. The motif can be joined up repeatedly, so from a short section you can put together a track of any length; when joining, move the stencil in the direction of travel and overlap the previous print slightly. Keep the intensity irregular, as a track is most pronounced where the ground was soft and grows fainter from there.
Apply it only onto a finished surface, ideally before the pigments. Choose a muted paint, best a shade darker or lighter than the ground, as a contrasting track looks stuck on. You will bring the effect out by going lightly over the dried print with a pigment or a thin wash, so that the track connects with its surroundings. Clean the stencil while the paint is still fresh; choose the thinner according to the paint used and with an unknown material try it at the edge. Store it flat.
Paints, thinner and an airbrush are not included in the package. The stencil is intended for repeated use; the number and width of the motifs are not stated here.
