An Aber turned metal barrel in 1:35 scale for the 88 mm KwK 43/2 gun with a barrel length of 71 calibers, as it was fitted in the early Porsche design turret of the German heavy tank Tiger Ausf. B. The form matches the early muzzle brake. This is a detail accessory replacing the plastic barrel, not a kit of a tank.
The Tiger Ausf. B, also known as the Königstiger, was the heaviest German tank in series production in the Second World War. Its main armament was the long 88 mm KwK 43 gun with a barrel length of 71 calibers, which thanks to its high muzzle velocity was among the most effective anti-tank weapons of its day. The first vehicles built carried a turret with a curved front, known among modelers and historians alike as the Porsche design turret, and in the early period also an early form of the muzzle brake. It is this form that the barrel matches.
The set replaces the plastic barrel from the kit. Cut off the original part, level the surface and try the metal barrel dry first, so that both the axis and the depth of insertion sit right. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue or epoxy; plastic cement does not work on metal. Degrease the metal before spraying and undercoat it with a primer for metal. The advantage of a turned part is a precisely drilled muzzle and a perfectly straight barrel with no mold seam that would have to be laboriously sanded.
This is a supplementary detail set for modelers, not a kit. The model itself, glue and paints are not included in the package.
