About product

Thunder Model Bergepanzer 38 Hetzer Early (1:35)

An injection-molded plastic kit of the German Bergepanzer 38 recovery vehicle, derived from the chassis of the Hetzer series of tank destroyers, in the early production version. 1:35 scale, made by Thunder Model. It is a detailed model with a large number of small parts and photo-etched parts, intended for advanced modelers.

The real subject

The Bergepanzer 38 came about as a recovery vehicle on a proven light chassis. In place of the fixed casemate with a gun it had a low open superstructure, and it was equipped with a winch, a folding crane jib and a rear bracing spade for recovery work. It served for towing and repairing damaged vehicles in the field.

Building and painting tips

Finish the running gear and the lower areas and paint them before closing up the hull. The track links and the photo-etched parts call for careful work. Use liquid modeling cement for the plastic, and an airbrush and a primer for painting. Washes and pigments will add the mud and dust effects. The spade and the crane jib can be shown in the folded or in the working position.

Who the model is for

  • For advanced modelers of German armored vehicles.
  • For collectors of recovery and support vehicles.
  • For those interested in a detailed model with photo-etched parts and individual track links.

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

The Bergepanzer 38 was a recovery tank intended for towing and repairing damaged vehicles; it had a winch, a crane jib and a bracing spade.

The early vehicles differ in the details of the superstructure and the fittings. The model captures the early production version.

Rather not. The number of small parts, photo-etched parts and individual track links places the model among the more demanding ones.
