A collector's plastic model of the giant long-necked dinosaur Brachiosaurus in 1:35 scale from Tamiya. The box lets you build the dinosaur with the mouth open or closed and in a standing or a walking pose; a juvenile brachiosaur, a diorama base and a human figure in the same scale, which shows the giant dimensions of the animal at a glance, are also included. This is not a piece of hardware but a model of a prehistoric creature, so approach both the build and the painting as work on a living animal and its setting.
Brachiosaurus was an enormous herbivorous dinosaur of the sauropod group that lived in the Late Jurassic in what is now North America. It was notable for its long neck and for forelimbs longer than its hind limbs, which made its body slope backward and let it carry its head high above the ground. It reached an exceptional height and was among the largest land creatures of its time: with its long neck it reached the high vegetation that smaller herbivores could not browse.
Glue the parts with cement for plastic and sand the seams on the body and the neck carefully for a smooth transition of the skin. Apply a primer before painting. Paint the skin with an airbrush from a darker back toward a lighter belly and soften the transitions. Bring out the skin texture with a dark wash in the recesses and a dry brush across the raised areas. The colors of dinosaurs are not known exactly, so you have creative freedom. Finish the base as a Mesozoic setting with vegetation, and give the juvenile a subtly different shade.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
