This is a printed paper sheet from ETA diorama for scenes in 1:35 scale. It holds no plastic and no resin and it is not a decal. The advertising motifs on an automotive theme will fill the empty areas of an urban scene: the gables of houses, the fences of a building site, boarded-up shop windows, free-standing billboard structures by the road.
With large advertising surfaces the size is the key. A real billboard by the road is several meters across, which in 1:35 scale means a surface about the length of a palm – when a motif is reduced too far, the scene loses its scale and the viewer notices subconsciously. So rather leave the motif at its original size and adapt the structure to it than trim it down. Build the supporting frame and the legs from plastic profiles, strips or wire, back the motif with thin card and only then fit it, otherwise the surface will bend.
A poster glued over the corner of a house or over a corrugated fence is one of the simplest ways to prove that it is paper and not printing on the undercoat. Apply PVA glue with a brush, let the paper dampen for a while and then press it into the edge or the corrugation with a soft brush. Once dry it follows the shape of the undercoat. Color advertising tends to be bold, so unify it with the scene: sand the edges gently, go over the surface with a very thin wash, add dust with dry pastel and spray matte clear coat at the end. An illuminated billboard can be suggested by backing it with translucent plastic and lighting it from behind; then finish the cabling off from thin wire.
