A kit of the Soviet KV-1 heavy tank in 1:100 scale, that is, in the small scale used for tabletop games and collections, where what matters is a large number of vehicles on a small area. The model corresponds to the early version of the end of 1940. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The KV-1 was a Soviet heavy tank that caught the German units out in 1941 with its armor: ordinary antitank guns did not punch through it at the usual distances, and artillery or antiaircraft guns were needed to stop it. The vehicle weighed over forty tons, carried a gun of 76 mm caliber and was powered by a twelve-cylinder diesel. The price paid for the armor was slowness, a demanding transmission and unreliability that was never entirely eliminated during the war. The early series differ from the later ones in the shape of the turret and in the arrangement of the external details.
In 1:100 scale the whole model is smaller than the palm of a hand, so work with tweezers and over the box. Cut the parts off with a fresh blade. A clean surface is the foundation: small models are most often spoiled by paint being applied too thickly and swamping the engraving. Spray thin layers, use a thinned wash into the seams and go over it only very lightly with drybrushing. On a vehicle this small the overall tone and dust come into their own rather than individual scuffs.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
