Photo-etched grilles for the T-55AM and T-55AMV, 1:35

A set of photo-etched grilles for the cooling and engine compartment for models of the Soviet tank T-55 in the modernized AM and AMV versions, in 1:35. It is not a model but a replacement part. The grille is always visible at the rear of the vehicle, and a plastic part can only manage it as a solid plate with the structure suggested, because a mold cannot make an open mesh.

• Replacing the solid plastic plate with a genuinely open mesh.
• A view into the space under the grille, which gives the rear depth.
• A faithful thickness and spacing of the bars, which plastic cannot manage.
• Repairing a model with a damaged grille.

Building and painting tips

Cut the parts out of the fret with a sharp blade on a hard surface; do not snap them off. Make the bends over a metal edge. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue in a tiny amount around the edge. Blacken the space under the grille first, so that light plastic is not seen through it. Degrease the parts before painting and apply a primer. Fallen leaves and dust settle well on the grilles, and that is a detail which lends a scene credibility.
