The Hitachi ZC50C-5 is a compact combined roller in the four-ton weight class, the kind used for compacting new road surfaces and gravel areas. Combined means that the front axle carries a steel vibratory drum while the rear axle runs on rubber tires, so the machine compacts by vibration and seals the surface with the tires in a single pass. The open operator platform with its protective frame gives the machine a shape that reads well from every side on the model.
The 1:35 scale model is supplied unassembled and unpainted, with the plastic parts held on sprues. An operator figure in a seated pose, clear parts and a decal sheet are included. The scale matches the most widespread scale for ground equipment, so the machine drops easily into a diorama with a construction or engineering scene.
Cut the parts free with sprue nippers a little way from the part and sand the remaining stub smooth. Ordinary polystyrene cement holds them. The saturated shade used on construction machinery sits best over a light primer; on bare dark plastic it looks muddy. Fit the clear parts last and bond them with a product made for transparent plastics, because cyanoacrylate will fog them. The steel drum invites weathering: polished edges and a fine film of dust over the rest of the machine turn the model into a working tool rather than a display piece.
