1:35 Japanese army, a dummy soldier and a howitzer, Second World War (2 figures) is a CMK resin set joining figures with an artillery element.
Responsibility details are not available.
A resin set in 1:35 scale from the maker CMK. The name gives two figures and in one package joins them with a howitzer, which makes the set a small scene rather than stand-alone figures. For a modeler that means a different task from an ordinary figure set: the figures will not stand freely but will be tied to the artillery element, so they are arranged only according to it. The exact contents of the package are stated on the box.
The parts come on casting blocks, and on the artillery part they tend to be thin and easily broken. First wash everything in lukewarm water with detergent because of the mold release agent. Cut the blocks off with a fine-toothed saw a little way from the part and sand the remainder down, and scrape the parting line along the sides with the edge of a scalpel. Proceed in this order: first assemble and clean up the artillery part, and only then dry-fit the figures to it and adjust the contact surfaces of their hands and feet until they fit without being forced. The opposite order ends with a painted figure that does not reach the finished part. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, with a wire pin on larger joints. The whole practically cannot do without a base, as on a bare board it would fall apart into unrelated pieces.
The combination of figures and an artillery element means three different surfaces side by side: metal, wood and fabric. Paint metal with a dark base and burnish the edges carefully, build wood up with glazes over a lighter undercoat so that the grain shows through, and keep the uniform in mild contrast with a thin glaze into the folds. Deal with the skin in three steps, that is a base, a brown glaze into the shadows and a fine highlight on the forehead and cheekbones; in 1:35 it is enough to suggest the eyes with a dark line under a magnifier. The most important step comes at the end: go over both the figures and the howitzer with the same earthy tint from the bottom up and finish them with one matte clear coat. A shared patina and a matching degree of sheen join separately painted pieces into one scene more reliably than an exact match of shades.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted as resin castings. Glue, paints and a base are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
