The kit captures the main battle tank Leopard 1 in the A5 version, that is in the form it took after the modernization program of the 1980s. The model is supplied as a classic plastic kit to be glued together and painted. Among military hardware, 1:35 scale is the most widespread and gives enough room for working out the hull, the turret and the running gear. It is worth checking the exact contents of the package and the number of parts in the data sheet of the maker.
The Leopard 1 arose in Germany as a lighter and more mobile machine than the heavy tanks of the day. It entered service in the middle of the 1960s and its concept built on speed, a powerful multipurpose diesel engine and the proven gun of 105 mm caliber. The A5 version brought above all a new generation of fire control system with a thermal imaging channel and modified inner equipment of the turret; the caliber of the main weapon stayed the same. The type was among the most widespread Western European tanks of its time and served in the armies of a number of states.
Start with the running gear and the hull tub, while everything is easy to reach. Cut the parts away with a sharp knife or with nippers and sand the traces of the sprue gates down carefully. Use a thin cement on the plastic, one that wicks into the seam. Apply a filling primer before painting; it will unify the surface and improve adhesion. Spray the three-color camouflage with an airbrush with soft transitions, and you will manage sharp edges with masking putty. Build the patina up in layers: a dark wash into the engraved lines and the recesses, drybrushing on the edges, pigments on the bottom of the hull and the running gear. Accent the tracks and the exhaust covers with shades of rust and dust.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
