Etched metal parts for refining the surface of the British Mark IV heavy tank with male armament, in 1:35 scale for the Tamiya kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The British heavy tank of 1917 had an outline drawn out into a rhomboid so that the track running around the whole circumference of the hull would cross trenches. The male form differs from the female in armament: in the sponsons projecting from the sides it carries a pair of six-pounder guns, while the female version had only machine guns. Compared with the first production batches the type received thicker armor, the fuel tank moved to the rear and an unditching beam on its back for getting out of mud.
The most famous day came in November 1917, when hundreds of these machines attacked at once and broke through the fortified belt to a depth the infantry had not reached in months of fighting. It became clear in the process that the outcome is decided by cooperation with the infantry and the artillery, not by the number of vehicles.
Injection-molded parts cannot imitate the thickness of sheet metal or pierced eyes. The set therefore concentrates on the outside: tool clamps, small brackets, eyes and the fine features that are seen on a model from every angle. The metal part is sanded with fine paper before gluing for the sake of adhesion, and it is advisable to make the bends in one go and without repeated flexing, because brass hardens at the point of the bend and breaks. On this vehicle photo-etch stands out particularly well, since the large area of the sides is otherwise smooth and every detail added on it shows. The set is prepared for the kit of the brand Tamiya, so the shapes fit its parts without additional adjustment and nothing has to be trimmed to a template of your own.
