Merkava IIID 1:35 — Eduard road wheel masks

A set of painting masks from the Czech maker Eduard for a kit of the Israeli Merkava Mk.III main battle tank in the IIID version in 1:35 scale. It is not a model, but an accessory for clean painting of the road wheels. The masks are of thin self-adhesive film and are cut precisely to the shape of the tire bands of the wheels.

The real subject

The Merkava is a series of Israeli main battle tanks with an unconventional layout in which the engine is placed at the front and protects the crew. The Mk.III version brought a more powerful gun, a new powerplant and modernized armor. The running gear is made up of a row of wheels with rubber tire bands.

What the masks are for

The masks let you separate the color of the rubber tire band from the metal center of the wheel and get an accurate boundary without the tedium of covering each wheel up by hand.

How to use the masks

• Lift the mask off the backing and stick it on the tire band of the wheel concerned.
• Spray the color of the rubber, and the center of the wheel separately if you wish.
• Once dry, peel the mask off carefully.
• The masks are single-use and shaped for this subject.
