Hex head flange bolts to be glued onto a model, whose size runs according to the name from 0.8 mm to 1.2 mm. A flange bolt has a widened collar beneath the head which performs the duty of a washer and is one piece with the head. In scale this shows up as a joint with a fine rim around it which looks seated, rather than as a bare hex perched on a surface.
On modern machinery they are among the most common fasteners: they hold engine covers, brackets, the mounting of radiators and tanks, suspension parts and sheet-metal and composite panels. On models of cars and formula racers they therefore suit the engine bay, the frame and the mounting of body parts. The graded sizes let the load-bearing joints be told apart from the small covers, so the surface does not look monotonous.
Level and degrease the surface so that the collar seats over its whole area and the part does not tilt. Mark the position in advance with a shallow recess. Carry the glue in a minute amount with the tip of a wire or a toothpick; a drop from the bottle would flood the rim of the flange bolt. For painting a thin coat is enough; a dark wash will then bring out the transition between the collar and the surface.
For modelers of modern cars and racing cars who detail the engine bay, the suspension and the frame. Paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
