A photo-etched set for a model of the Israeli Merkava main battle tank in the Mk.2D version in 1:35 from the Czech manufacturer Eduard. The package does not contain a kit of the vehicle but a fret of fine metal parts with which the plastic parts of a model are replaced or supplemented. On armored vehicles etched parts come into their own above all where injection-molded plastic cannot capture the real thickness of the material, that is on cooling grilles, fenders, brackets, plates and small external fittings.
The Merkava is an Israeli main battle tank with an unusual layout: the engine is placed at the front and the fighting compartment, with room for carrying men, is at the rear. The Mk.2 version followed on from the first form and brought changes to the powerplant, the fire control systems and the armor. The Mk.2D designation corresponds to the form with additional modular armor blocks on the turret and the hull, which markedly change the silhouette of the vehicle; that is exactly why on this type it matters that an add-on set should match the particular version.
Separate the etched parts with a scalpel on a hard surface and make the folds along the scored lines, ideally in a bending tool. Bond with cyanoacrylate glue in a minimal amount. The plastic originals that the metal replaces have to be sanded away completely in advance. Degrease the metal before painting and use a primer, otherwise the shade will not take. On armored vehicles we recommend finishing the main coat first and only then dealing with the weathering, as thin etched parts are easily bent and damaged. Apply dust and mud effects with pigments and washes right at the end, so that the fine relief of the etched parts is not clogged.
The accessory is supplied unassembled. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
