A resin figure in 1:35 scale from Rado Miniatures, from the Move, Jerry! range. According to the name it is a single figure of a British soldier armed with a Lee-Enfield No.4 bolt-action rifle, in the period from 1943 to 1945. The singular in the name corresponds to a single figure. It is not a vehicle model but a stand-alone figure for a diorama, a vignette or for a model of equipment in the same scale.
The British field uniform of this period is rewarding to paint precisely because it looks uninteresting. The whole figure rests on one brownish-green tone, so the entire impression comes from working with light: the base, a glaze in the folds and lightened edges. Anyone who learns that on a figure like this will manage any more complicated pattern afterwards. The second prominent element is the webbing of straps and pouches. In practice it was treated with a dressing compound, so it has a different, lighter and more matte tone than the cloth of the uniform, and it is this difference that visually breaks the figure up. The British-pattern helmet has a distinctive shape that gives the figure a silhouette readable from a distance, which is useful in a scene where it should be clear who is who.
Wash the casting in lukewarm soapy water, cut the casting block off with a fine saw and sand the area wet with respiratory protection. Reinforce the joints of the arms and the head with a short wire pin and check dry that the folds follow on from each other. Spray on a thin primer. Build the uniform up from the base tone, put a glaze of a darker tone of the same color into the folds and lighten the edges. Give the straps and pouches a lighter and more matte tone than the uniform. Paint the rifle separately before fitting it: the wood with glazes, the metal parts toned down with graphite. A matte varnish at the end, and dust pigment on the footwear and the lower part of the trousers.
The figure is supplied unassembled and unpainted, as a resin casting. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
