1:35 Paint mask Su-76m

SU-76M 1:35 masking stencils (SX-Art)

A set of masking stencils for a model of the SU-76M light self-propelled gun in 1:35 scale from the manufacturer SX-Art. It is not a kit and not decals but an accessory for painting. The stencils are laid on a model that is already painted and cured and serve as a pattern for spraying a camouflage scheme or tactical markings. The pattern then lies directly in the layer of paint, which on a matte surface looks more believable than a decal stuck on.

The real subject

The SU-76M was a Soviet light self-propelled gun from the period of the Second World War. A 76.2 mm gun was mounted in an open superstructure on a chassis derived from a light tank. The design was simple and was produced in large numbers, mainly as support equipment for infantry. The open fighting compartment is interesting for a modeler because the inside is visible, so it pays to give attention to the interior as well.

How the stencils are used

• Let the paint of the base shade cure fully, not merely dry to the touch
• Degrease the surface and rid it of dust before applying the stencil
• Press the stencil down along its whole edge, and proceed carefully at rivets and edges, so that the edge seats
• Spray at a right angle, at a lower pressure and in thin coats, otherwise the paint will run under the edge
• Take the stencil off soon after the paint has set, pulling at a sharp angle
• Unify the pattern with varnish, and only then apply washes, dust and further patina

Who the set is for

• Modelers of ground vehicles in 1:35 scale
• Those who prefer sprayed markings to decals
• Builders who want a clean and repeatable pattern
• Those interested in Soviet vehicles of the Second World War

The set contains the masking stencils alone. A model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
