A turned barrel with a muzzle brake for the Panther in 1:35 scale from Aber, for the Ausf. A, D and early G versions. It is not a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
A turned metal barrel in 1:35 scale for a model of the German Panther tank in the Ausf. A and Ausf. D versions and on early Ausf. G machines, including the muzzle brake. It is not a kit but a replacement for a plastic part. The long barrel is the most conspicuous feature of the Panther, and in plastic it tends to be slightly bent and to carry a mold parting line that can never be sanded away perfectly. Turned metal is straight and has an open muzzle.
The Panther carried a 7.5 cm gun with a very long barrel. It was exactly the length and the high muzzle velocity that gave it penetration comparable to far heavier weapons, so it could hit a target at long range. The muzzle brake at the end of the barrel directed part of the gases sideways and reduced the recoil. The appearance of the barrel changed only in details between versions, but for a modeler those details matter.
Cut the plastic barrel off as close to the turret as possible and drill the seat so that the spigot of the metal barrel fits firmly but does not pass right through. Degrease the metal with alcohol and apply a primer, otherwise paint will not hold on the smooth surface. It is glued with super glue, that is cyanoacrylate, drop by drop. Fit the barrel only at the end of the build so that it is not bent during handling, and check its axis from the front while the glue sets.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
