Photo-etched metal has a realistic thickness and stays see-through, so once fitted the rear of a model comes across faithfully even when seen from above. The Panther Ausf. A was the second main production version of the German medium tank PzKpfw V, built from 1943. Compared with the Ausf. D version it received a new commander's cupola and a machine gun port in the frontal armor of the hull. The layout of the engine compartment with its large openings for the cooling fans and the intake grilles stayed close to the original form. The upper surface of the rear is among the most closely watched areas on a model.
Cut or sand away the plastic grilles from the kit, clear out the openings and level the surface. Separate the photo-etched parts with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface and make the bends in a bending tool or between two blades. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) onto a degreased surface, and before painting lay a primer onto the metal. A dark wash and a gentle dry brush bring the structure of the grillework to the fore.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. It is a detail accessory for a plastic kit, not a model in its own right. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
