A set of photo-etched parts made of thin sheet metal for refining the detail of a plastic model of the Soviet T-80B main battle tank in 1:35 scale. It is not a model of the vehicle, but an aftermarket accessory for a kit. The photo-etched parts replace plastic items where injection-molded plastic cannot capture a thin wall convincingly, that is above all the grilles over the powerpack, the covers, the loops, the clamps, the fenders and the fine equipment brackets on the hull and the turret. The exact contents of the package follow the manufacturer's instructions.
The T-80B is a Soviet main battle tank powered by a gas turbine, which at the time of its introduction made it an unusually brisk machine with a quick response to the throttle. It carries a 125 mm smoothbore gun with an autoloader, from which anti-tank guided missiles can also be fired. Compared with the older versions it has improved armor protection of the turret and an upgraded fire control system. The turbine drive brought performance, but also high fuel consumption, which was characteristic of operating the type.
Never break the parts out; cut them out with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface and level the remains of the tags with a fine file. Make the folds along the marked score lines in a photo-etch bender, or at a pinch under a straight rule. They are glued with thin cyanoacrylate, which wicks into the joint by capillary action. On large parts a slow-setting epoxy gives time for positioning. Degrease the metal before painting and lay down a primer. On Eastern vehicles it is worth planning for strong weathering, as dust and mud settle into fine metal details very convincingly and a wash brings out the sharp edges of photo-etched parts.
