Injection-molded plastic kit of the AV-8A Harrier in 1:72 scale from the Japanese manufacturer Hasegawa, released in a licensed edition tied to the Japanese comic series Area 88 by Kaoru Shintani. The basis is a model of the real vertical takeoff combat aircraft, but the decal sheet carries the fictional personal markings of the pilot nicknamed Kim Abba, including the emblem on the vertical tail. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The AV-8A Harrier was the American service version of the British Hawker Siddeley Harrier, operated by the United States Marine Corps from the early 1970s. It is a single-seat subsonic attack aircraft with one turbofan engine and swiveling nozzles, thanks to which it can take off vertically or from a very short strip and land without a conventional runway. That is exactly what made it a machine for forward bases, improvised surfaces and the decks of amphibious ships. Its characteristic features are the high-mounted swept wing, the main landing gear leg under the fuselage with outrigger wheels at the wingtips, and the massive side air intakes.
Paint and clean up the cockpit and the landing gear bays before closing the fuselage. The swiveling nozzles are among the most conspicuous details and are worth spending time on, set apart with a metal shade and traces of heat discoloration. Belts made of thin metal sheet or paper will bring the seat to life. Lay down a gloss clear coat before the decals and a flat or semi-gloss coat over them. The fictional personal markings have strong colors, so use a light base underneath them, otherwise they will lose their saturation. Glue with thin cement for plastic and dry-fit the fuselage joints in advance.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
