The Quickwheel 1:35 Soviet 122 mm and 152 mm gun masking set is cut for the kit from Trumpeter and makes painting the carriage wheels easier.

A self-adhesive masking set for painting the wheels of the Soviet 122 mm and 152 mm gun in 1:35 scale, cut for the kit from Trumpeter. It covers the tire, the rim is sprayed over and the transition stays exactly circular. It is neither a kit nor a part of the model.
Both go by the name of masking, but they work differently. A spray stencil is only held or laid over the surface — a gap is left between it and the part, and atomized paint gets under it through that gap. The result is a soft, slightly diffused edge. On some jobs that is exactly what you want, for instance spraying camouflage with a gradual transition. On a wheel the requirement is the opposite: the border between tire and rim should be hard and exactly circular. A self-adhesive mask bonds to the surface over its whole area, so no paint gets underneath at all and the edge is sharp. The second difference lies in repeatability — a stencil has to be re-centered by hand on every wheel, whereas a mask is stuck down once and stays. On an artillery carriage each wheel is also painted from several directions, which is awkward to do with a stencil held loosely in place.
Paint the wheel in the tire shade, let it dry, apply the mask, press the edge down all the way around and spray the rim over in thin coats square to the surface.
This is a masking set. Paints, the kit and further accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
