A well in 1:35 scale for village scenes. Nine resin parts.
Responsibility details are not available.
A well is more useful in a diorama than most buildings, because it creates action by itself. People gathered around it, canteens and jerrycans were filled there, vehicles and crews were washed there. A well pole with its bucket in the middle of a village green gives a scene a natural center toward which movement converges, and it takes up far less room than a whole cottage.
The set holds nine resin parts. A smaller number of parts means the build is quick and no deviation accumulates during assembly, but it makes the preparation of the surface all the more important. Resin is washed before painting, the mold parting lines are sanded away, and the fine edges are best checked against the light before gluing, because small bubbles do occasionally appear in a casting.
A well ages faster than anything around it. The stone or the wood at the head is worn smooth by hands and by the vessels set down on it, the lower part is overgrown and damp, and the ground around tends to be trampled and muddy. It is exactly the transition between a dry and a wet surface that decides credibility. It is worth replacing the rope or the chain with your own material, because at this scale a cast rope rarely matches a real fiber.
A scenic structure for a diorama. The base, the terrain and figures are not included. When settling it, reckon with the fact that an object of this kind never stands on the level: a shallow hollow has been worn around it over decades and the edge has subsided to one side. Sinking the lower edge a few tenths of a millimeter into the terrain does more for credibility than any fine tuning of the color.
