About product

The T-34/85 turret from Factory No. 112, 1945 pattern, 1:35 scale, DEF Model

The set is a resin replacement for the turret for a plastic T-34/85 kit in 1:35 scale. It is not a kit of the tank; the hull, the running gear and the rest of the model have to come from another source. A resin casting makes it possible to capture the texture of a cast surface, the offsets of the molds and the seams of the casting in a form that injection-molded plastic can never achieve because of the parting line of its mold. It is a typical upgrade for the modeler for whom a general turret shape is not enough and who wants one particular production form.

Why the turret from Factory No. 112 in particular

The T-34/85 tank was built by several factories at once, and each of them cast a turret with identifying features of its own: differently routed seams, a different shape of the casting at the rear, a different arrangement of hatches, ventilators and fittings. The turret from Krasnoye Sormovo, that is from Factory No. 112, is among the most frequently distinguished types, and its late 1945 form differs visibly from the standard turret in ordinary kits. For a modeler building one particular machine from a photograph, the turret is the quickest way to place a model in the right production series.

Tips for working and painting

Wash the casting in lukewarm water with a detergent, cut the casting block off with a saw and level the mating surface on abrasive paper laid on glass, so that the turret sits level in the opening of the hull. Sand wet and with respiratory protection. Do not cover the cast surface with a coarse base coat; a thin primer is enough and will underline the texture. Build the painting up in thin coats, lighten the upper surfaces and bring the seams of the casting out with a fine dark wash. Wear on the edges of the hatches and in the places where the crew climbed in gives the turret life, though there is no point in overdoing it.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers who are building one particular production variant of the T-34/85 in 1:35 scale.
  • Anyone interested in working with resin and in a faithful rendering of cast surfaces.
  • Collectors who want to tell machines from different factories apart in a display case.
  • More advanced builders who do not mind adjusting the mating surface of the turret.

The accessory is supplied unpainted, as a resin casting to be worked up. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is not. It is a turret on its own; the hull and the running gear have to come from a plastic kit.

The contents of the package are not stated here. A list of the parts is given by the manufacturer on the box of the set.

That cannot be guaranteed. The mating diameter differs between manufacturers and some adjustment of the surface should be expected.

Rather not. Cutting the casting blocks, leveling the mating surface and gluing with cyanoacrylate all call for a little practice.
