A small add-on set from ELEFANT in 1:35 scale containing the clamps and the bracket for tow cables for the Pz. III tank in the E to N versions and for the Stug. III assault gun in the A to F versions. According to the name the set is enough for two vehicles. It is neither a kit nor a model: these are replacement parts for raising the fidelity of a model you already own. The base model, the tow cable itself and tools are not included in the package. The material of the castings is not stated here.
Clamps and brackets for tow cables are among the parts that are clearly visible on the sides and the rear of a vehicle, but in an injected form they necessarily come out thicker and softer than the scale calls for. Cast replacements let you model both the clamp and the bracket at a realistic thickness and prepare the vehicle for a cable made of wire rope or drawn sprue. The set is intended for a modeler who wants the external equipment of the hull rendered more convincingly than straight from the box.
First wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water and rid them of mold release residue from the mold. On parts this small, cut the casting blocks off with a new blade on a cutting mat and work over a light-colored surface so that a part does not get lost. They are bonded with super glue; it works well to put a drop on a piece of foil and to pick it up with a pin. Remove the original parts from the box and sand the area smooth before gluing. Paint the clamps together with the hull, but finish and fit the tow cable only after varnishing, because the metallic wear on the eye and on the strands of the rope is then easier to bring out.
