An injection-molded plastic kit of the American 3-inch (76 mm) M5 heavy anti-tank gun on the M6 split-trail carriage in 1:35 scale from AFV Club. The package offers richly broken-down parts, a metal gun barrel with a hollowed bore, photo-etched elements and period-pattern rubber tires. The carriage can be built either in the firing or in the traveling position.
The 3-inch Gun M5 was an American heavy anti-tank gun of the Second World War. It combined a barrel derived from an anti-aircraft gun with a lighter carriage to create a towed anti-tank weapon able to destroy even heavily armored targets. It was fielded above all by the separate tank destroyer battalions, and its high penetrating power made it an effective defense against German tanks. Its weak point was considerable weight, which made moving it across country difficult.
Work in subassemblies and use liquid cement for plastic; glue the photo-etched and metal parts with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Leave the moving parts of the carriage and the recoil mechanism free until you have checked that they travel correctly. Apply a primer before painting and spray the colors with an airbrush. Build the weathering with dark washes in the recesses and dust pigments on the carriage and the wheels.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
