The Grumman F-14A Tomcat was an American two-seat carrier-based fighter with a variable-sweep wing. Its nozzles are far apart on the sides of the flat rear fuselage, so they are visible on a model from the side, from behind and from above and cannot be hidden. On the ground the rear end of the machine also tends to be the dirtiest place in photographs, which makes it a rewarding subject for weathering.
The set replaces the exhaust nozzles of both engines with parts with thin edges and a well-worked interior. The varied position qualifier in the name says that the nozzles are not shaped identically; compared with a version with both nozzles in one position the model thus gets a less symmetrical and so a livelier rear end. The scope of the set, the kit it is intended for and any modifications of the rear end are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The parts are not polystyrene, so ordinary plastic cement has no effect on them; make the joints with super glue. Cut the excess material off a little way from the part with a sharp blade and sand the remainder down so that the shape is not damaged. Before painting, wash the parts in lukewarm water with dish soap and degrease them, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth surface. The particular procedure for preparing them is given in the manufacturer's instructions. Paint the inside of the nozzle before you seat it on the model. Because the position of the two nozzles differs, each one seats differently; dry-fit them and mark which one belongs on which side.
The model, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
