A plastic kit of the British light tracked carrier in the version equipped with a flamethrower, complemented by figures of the crew. Riich Models is known for a fine division of parts and rich detail, so this is a careful build for a more experienced modeler rather than quick weekend work. The open body at the same time lets the interior stand out, which disappears with closed vehicles once they are finished.
The Universal Carrier was a small open tracked carrier of British design, produced during the Second World War in large numbers and deployed in the role of a towing, liaison, supply and reconnaissance vehicle. The Wasp Mk.II version arose by a conversion in which a flamethrower was installed in the front of the body and tanks for the fuel were added inside. Vehicles of this version were used by British and Canadian units in the final phase of the war in Western Europe. For a modeler the subject is rewarding precisely for its low silhouette and open body; the inside is visible, so it pays to work the interior and the equipment out.
Proceed in subassemblies. Paint the tub with the interior and weather it before you close it up with the outer plates and the tanks; once it is finished you cannot get inside. Glue the running gear on a flat surface and before fitting the tracks check that the wheels are in line. Glue the small and thin parts with thin cyanoacrylate glue a drop at a time, so that it does not run. A uniform dark green finish suits British vehicles, broken up with pre-shading, wear of the paint on the edges and dust pigments on the running gear. Paint the figures separately and fit them only at the end; faces come out best from thin glazes, not from one thick coat.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
