About product

Archer 1:35, US Army infantry division patches, the 93rd, 96th and 99th

A sheet of dry transfers in 1:35 scale with shoulder patches of US Army infantry divisions. According to the name it covers the 93rd, 96th and 99th Divisions, so it is a narrower, deliberately focused sheet. The set serves to mark figures; it is not a model, a kit or a package of figures.

Dry transfers are not soaked

The most important thing before first use: the sheet is not soaked off in water. Cut the motif out together with its carrier film, lay it face down on the sleeve of the figure, hold it with tweezers and burnish gently with a rounded point, a toothpick, a bone burnisher or a pencil without lead. The motif is released from the film and passes into the finish. Lift the carrier film slowly and at an angle; if the whole area has not transferred, return it to exactly the same position and burnish the spot again. Anyone who soaks the sheet in water will lose it.

Why a dry transfer in particular suits figures

In 1:35 scale a patch measures only a fraction of a millimeter and with a waterslide decal it is mainly the carrier film that is distracting: on the matte, uneven cloth of a uniform it leaves a glossy island that is visible even after matting. A dry transfer leaves no film behind, so the marking comes across as painted with a brush. The surface should be smooth, well dried and degreased; on a coarsely grained surface only part of the motif transfers. Because the sheet covers a smaller number of divisions, it pays to think in advance how many figures you want to mark, as the motifs cannot be restored once used. Seal the finished marking with a light coat of matte varnish and only then go on with the weathering.

Who the set is for

  • builders of US Army figures in 1:35 scale
  • modelers who build a scene with one particular infantry division
  • makers of dioramas with convincing uniform detail
  • patient modelers working with tweezers and a magnifier

The set contains the markings only, not figures or a model. The exact breakdown of the patches is stated on the box.

FAQ

No. They are dry transfers, transferred by burnishing with a blunt point through the carrier film. Soaking will ruin the sheet.

According to the name, the 93rd, 96th and 99th Infantry Divisions.

No. Unlike a waterslide decal, a dry transfer cannot be moved once it has transferred, so plan the position in advance.

We recommend a light coat of matte varnish. The transfer will then take further shading and weathering of the uniform.
