This detail set from Griffon Model brings photo-etched brass parts for a model of the German 2 cm Flakpanzer IV Wirbelwind Ausf.G anti-aircraft tank in 1:35 scale. The set offers a version for the variant with the Zimmerit coating and one without it. It is not a kit on its own but an accessory that raises the fidelity and the level of detail of the base plastic model.
The Wirbelwind was an anti-aircraft tank of the Second World War built on the Panzer IV chassis. In an open multi-sided turret it carried the quadruple 2 cm Flak 38 gun, meant for destroying low-flying aircraft and for supporting fire against ground targets. The vehicles were built toward the end of the war and some of the hulls carried the anti-magnetic Zimmerit coating.
The photo-etched parts replace or add to thick-walled plastic items, such as the fenders, covers, small grab handles and grillework. Use a photo-etch bending tool for the bends and fix the parts with cyanoacrylate glue. Degrease the brass before painting and spray it with a primer. If you want to build the version with Zimmerit, reckon with applying the coating and blending it in with the accessories.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not part of the package, unless stated otherwise.
