Voyager Model 1:35 M40 SPG – basic photo-etched set with an antenna base is a photo-etched add-on set for a plastic kit you already own, not a model. It replaces thick plastic parts with thin brass photo-etched parts.
Responsibility details are not available.
This item is not a model but an accessory. It is a photo-etched brass set from Voyager Model in 1:35 scale, which the modeler fits to the separately sold Tamiya 35351 plastic kit. According to the name of the set, an antenna base is included as well. The exact scope of the package is not stated here.
The M40 was an American self-propelled gun of the end of the Second World War, known in the designation of the period as a 155 mm gun motor carriage. It came about on a wide chassis derived from the M4 medium tank with HVSS spring suspension, which coped better with the weight and the recoil. The crew worked in an open fighting superstructure, and at the rear there was a folding spade on which the vehicle braced itself while firing. The machine served with artillery units after the war as well.
Brass from a photo-etched fret is hard when cold and springs back, which is a nuisance on parts that have to be wrapped around a rounded shape. Annealing helps: hold the part with tweezers, pass it briefly through a flame so that it only darkens, and let it cool. The material softens and a bend then holds instead of returning. Do not overdo it, because overheated thin brass becomes brittle and breaks. Degrease annealed parts again before gluing, because oxides remain on the surface. Bend them straight away while they are soft, and glue only after a dry test in place.
The set is an accessory for a plastic kit, which it does not include. The glue, paints and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
