Small imitations of bolts with a cross slot and a round head in the 0.5 to 0.7 mm size range. The Phillips designation in the name points to the shape of the cross slot in the face of the head.
A cross slot with a round head belongs to the small joints of newer machines: to plastic covers, to instrument panels, to the mounting of mirrors, turn signals, license plates and cable clips. They are joints that carry no load but are visible. A model most often has them only suggested, because a cross a few tenths of a millimeter across does not transfer into a mold, and after the paint is sprayed nothing is left of it.
The 0.5 to 0.7 mm range is among the smaller things installed on a model, so a magnifier and fine-tipped tweezers come in useful. Tip the parts out onto a light surface with a rim so that they do not escape you; an individual piece carries well on the moistened tip of a toothpick or on a piece of masking tape stuck to a stick. Choose the size by comparison with the surrounding shapes on the part, not by the scale of the kit.
Level the surface and drill a shallow recess to fix the position of the part. Meter the glue with the tip of a wire into the recess, never onto the part. Painting is easier before gluing, for instance on double-sided tape, and in thin coats, otherwise the cross is filled by the very first layer. The model, paints, glue and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
