The Quickwheel 1:35 ZSU-57-2 masking set is for the road wheels of the Soviet self-propelled anti-aircraft gun. It marks out the rubber tire band against the rim.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of masks for painting the road wheels of the Soviet ZSU-57-2 self-propelled anti-aircraft gun with its open turret and pair of cannons. It is not a kit or a part — it is an aid that separates the rubber tire band from the rim on the wheel. The set is cut for the Trumpeter 05559 kit.
The ZSU-57-2 derives from the chassis of a Soviet medium tank, but that chassis was lightened to reduce weight — and most conspicuously in the running gear. Where the tank base carries five large road wheels on each side, this vehicle has only four per side. The wheel spacing and the whole side silhouette are therefore different from the tank the vehicle came from, and masks from the tank version will not fit here. The other features remain: the wheels are large, the upper rollers are missing, the track rides over the tops of the wheels and the drive sprocket is at the rear. A lightened running gear also means that more open space is left between the wheels and the underside of the hull is clearly visible from the side.
Four large wheels at wide intervals read as four separate objects rather than as a row. The viewer looks at them one at a time and on each of them the tire band border is the main drawn line. A sharp transition makes a fundamental difference here to how the model comes across on a shelf: either as a vehicle with a proper running gear, or as a hull set on four indeterminate discs. On a competition table the open turret also obliges a judge to walk around the model and turn it, so the running gear gets more looks than on closed vehicles.
This is a modeling accessory, not a kit. Paints, glue and the model itself are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
