The kit captures the British light cruiser HMS Colombo in 1:350 scale. It is an injection-molded plastic model from Trumpeter, made from a modern mold. The hull uses multi-directional slide molds, the deck has finely engraved planking, and the box also holds photo-etched parts and a display stand.
HMS Colombo was one of the C-class light cruisers that the Royal Navy took into service after the First World War. During the Second World War a number of these ships were converted into anti-aircraft cruisers with changed armament, so that they could protect the formations against air attack. Colombo thus served as a general-purpose vessel for escort work and for the defense of the airspace over the fleet.
The hull can be built as a full hull or set on the display stand. We recommend finishing the deck superstructures first and only then gluing the delicate photo-etched parts such as the railings and the ladders. Use liquid cement on the plastic and cyanoacrylate glue on the photo-etched parts. The painting follows the Admiralty camouflage schemes; an airbrush works well, with a final wash to pick out the detail.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
