An accessory for modelers who want a deck of real wood on a model of USS Hawaii CB-3. It is not a kit; the package holds veneer cut to shape with a pre-printed grid of deck planks, fitted with a self-adhesive backing. It is glued straight onto the plastic deck of the model and covers the engraving, which from the factory only imitates wood. The difference shows above all in daylight, when wood responds to the light differently from smooth plastic.
The commonest mistake is tearing the whole covering film off at once. An uncovered adhesive area picks up dust and lint from the fingers immediately, and during seating it sticks before you can line the part up. Work in strips, therefore: fold the film back over a few centimeters at one edge only, place the part and align it with the outline, and only then draw the film out gradually and press the veneer down behind it. Work with tweezers or in gloves, as fingerprints show on light veneer.
Always lay the veneer on dry first, still with the film in place, and check whether the outline, the cut-outs and the position against the edges of the deck all fit. Adjust any overhang with a sharp knife with a fresh blade, as a dull edge tears wood. Only when everything fits should you move on to gluing; the joint is practically impossible to take apart and veneer once peeled off cannot be used again.
An accessory for a plastic kit, not a model on its own. The cut of the part follows the Hobby Boss 86515 kit; please check that you have it. The package holds no model or paints.
