A wooden deck for the USS Massachusetts BB-59 kit from Trumpeter (05306) in 1:350 scale, with the outline of the pieces following one specific kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
A plastic deck always gives itself away on a finished model: it has molded seams that are exaggeratedly deep in 1:350 scale, and it has to be painted. A wooden piece, by contrast, carries the grain of the material itself and the seams between the planks stay fine. It is a step that changes the look of the whole model and yet needs no rebuilding of the hull.
USS Massachusetts BB-59 was one of the American battleships of the South Dakota class. She fought in the Second World War in the Atlantic and in the Pacific and is one of the few to survive to this day as a museum ship. On a model the deck forms a large continuous area, so it decides the final impression more than any other detail.
Lay the pieces out dry on the kit and check where the base needs leveling or where molded detail that would lift the deck has to be removed. Sand the surface and get rid of the dust. Check in the instructions from the manufacturer whether the piece has an adhesive layer or is glued separately, and choose the glue accordingly. Settle it from the center out to the edges, press evenly and do not rush; once a wooden piece is glued down it is hard to remove.
The set is for the modeler who is building exactly the Trumpeter 05306 kit and wants to get more out of it without complicated detailing. A sharp knife, tweezers and patience are what it takes, no special equipment.
The delivery contains the wooden deck. The kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
