The package holds photo-etched metal parts for refining the plastic kit of the 20 mm Flak 30 light antiaircraft gun in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit of the weapon but an aftermarket accessory from the Czech maker Hauler meant for the ACE kit. The base model has to be obtained separately.
The Flak 30 was a German 20 mm light antiaircraft gun introduced in the 1930s. It was used on a mount with folding outriggers, on the beds of vehicles and on watercraft, and it was the basis for a later improved type that reached a higher rate of fire. The construction of the weapon is largely made up of thin sheet-metal and pierced parts - the seats, the shields, the floor gratings, the sighting frames and the magazine holders. It is precisely with these that injection-molded plastic runs up against its limit and photo-etched metal comes into its own most.
A gun set means a great many very small parts. Work over a light-colored tray or over a piece of cloth with raised edges - a piece of photo-etch that flies off onto a carpet is as good as lost. Reach for tweezers with fine but unsprung tips, because springy tweezers will shoot the part away. Gratings and meshes glue better if you apply the super glue to the frame and not to the mesh. Once it has been assembled, paint the weapon in the thinnest coat you can, ideally with an airbrush, so that the pierced areas do not fill in, and bring the detail out with a dark wash and light drybrushing.
This is an accessory set, not a model. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
