A sheet of waterslide decals in 1:48 scale from the Czech maker AML Decals. It is not a kit or a finished model but an addition that gives a finished Spitfire a specific historical identity. The set holds two color options for Supermarine Spitfire LF Mk.IXe aircraft with the fuselage code DU, which belonged to No. 312 (Czechoslovak) Squadron RAF. 1:48 is the most widespread scale for the Spitfire, so a suitable kit to go with the sheet is easy to find.
No. 312 Squadron RAF was formed in 1940 as one of the three fighter squadrons made up of Czechoslovak airmen who carried on the fight in Great Britain after 1939. It first flew the Hawker Hurricane, later moved to the Supermarine Spitfire and, together with the other Czechoslovak squadrons, formed a fighter wing. The LF Mk.IXe version had an engine optimized for low and medium altitudes and a wing with mixed gun armament; it was used at the end of the war on escort and strike operations over the continent.
Varnish the areas under the decals with a gloss coat, otherwise air gets caught under the carrier film and the edges will silver. Cut the motif out as close as possible, soak it in warm water and let it rest on a towel until the film moves of its own accord. Transfer it to the model with a brush, blot off the excess water and adjust the position while the decal is still mobile. On broken-up places such as around the exhausts or the leading edge of the wing, a decal softener helps. Once dry, unify the sheen of the whole model with a matte or satin varnish.
The box holds only decals. A kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
