About product

A photo-etched set for the Cromwell Mk.IV in 1:48 scale (Hauler)

A basic photo-etched set for the model of the British Cromwell Mk.IV cruiser tank in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit of the vehicle but a set of photo-etched parts that replace and complete the details of the kit - brackets, clips, sheet-metal covers and small equipment, where plastic in this scale cannot get close to the real thickness. The parts are cut for the Tamiya kit.

The real subject

The Cromwell was a British cruiser tank of the second half of the Second World War. Characteristic of it was the combination of high output and speed thanks to an engine derived from an aero unit, and an angular hull built with both riveting and welding, with prominent side covers over the running gear. It is precisely the broken-up surface with its many small grab handles, eyes and plates that makes the Cromwell a rewarding subject for photo-etched accessories - every added detail shows up well on the flat surfaces.

Building and painting tips

Cut the photo-etched parts off with a sharp blade right at the tab and file the rest of the tab down, or the part will not sit flush. Always run the bends toward the etched groove, and in a bender rather than in tweezers. Degrease the whole fret, or at least the individual parts, with alcohol before gluing - grease from your fingers is the most common reason why a joint does not hold. Combine glues: super glue for metal joints, thin modeling cement where the metal only lies against plastic and just needs fixing around the edge. Apply a primer before painting. On British vehicles it pays to keep the weathering in dusty, dry tones rather than in dark mud, so that the small accessories are not lost.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of the Cromwell Mk.IV model in 1:48 scale
  • Collectors of British Second World War vehicles
  • Modelers with experience of bending and gluing photo-etch
  • Those who want to complete the model with further parts of the same range

The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted; it is an accessory for a model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.

FAQ

No. This is a set of photo-etched parts for completing a Cromwell Mk.IV model; the kit itself has to be bought separately.

A sharp blade, tweezers, a fine file and super glue. For accurate bends we recommend a photo-etch bender.

Yes. Paint does not hold on bare photo-etch; a primer is a necessity on metal accessories.
