This is a decal sheet in its own right from the Hungarian manufacturer HAD models in 1:48 scale, intended for a model of the MiG-23. It is devoted to the so-called stencils, that is the small technical, service and warning markings of the kind found on a real aircraft around filler necks, service panels, weapon racks and the landing gear. The sheet serves as an addition to the decals from a kit, or as a full replacement for them if the original decals are yellowed, cracked or printed too coarsely.
It is the stencils that turn a smoothly sprayed model into a convincing machine. Lettering laid out over the surface breaks up large uniform areas, gives the surface a sense of scale and noticeably lifts the overall impression from close up. In 1:48 scale they are already clearly visible, so it pays to give their placing time and to work from documentation of the real aircraft.
The MiG-23 is a single-engine combat aircraft with a variable-geometry wing. The sweep of the wing was set according to the regime of flight, which let the machine reach high speeds while keeping acceptable takeoff and landing behavior. The type was widely used and served with the Hungarian Air Force as well.
Varnish the area with gloss clear coat first; on a matte surface bubbles form under a decal and the film silvers. Cut the individual decals out, dip them in lukewarm water for a few seconds and once they release from the backing move them into place. Soak the surplus water up, and at engraved lines and rivets help them with a decal softener. Once dry, spray the model with a matte or satin varnish, which hides the edges of the carrier film.
The package holds the decal sheet only. The model, paints, glue and varnishes are not included.
