A set of photo-etched metal parts in 1:48 to complete a kit of the Soviet Ilyushin Il-2 ground-attack aircraft. It replaces coarser plastic features with details of a realistic thickness.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Ilyushin Il-2 was a Soviet ground-attack aircraft of the Second World War, built for attacks on ground targets from low altitude. The identifying feature of the machine is the armored forward fuselage, which protected the engine, the cooling system and the pilot from fire from below. It was produced in a single-seat form and in a version with a rear gunner, and it is among the most numerously built combat aircraft of its day.
This is a fret of photo-etched metal parts in 1:48, intended to complete a plastic Il-2 kit. Etching makes it possible to produce elements at a thickness that cannot be reached in plastic: flat details, grilles, straps, brackets and small panels. The exact make-up of the fret and the kit the set is intended for are given in the instructions from the manufacturer.
Separate the parts on a hard surface with a sharp blade rather than by twisting, otherwise the thin metal buckles. Make the folds over the edge of a steel rule or in a photo-etch bending tool, always at once and along the whole length of the fold. Bond the metal parts with cyanoacrylate or two-part glue; cement for polystyrene does not hold on metal. Before painting, wash and degrease the metal, because paint rubs off bare metal, and a thin coat of primer markedly improves adhesion.
The set suits a modeler who wants to replace the coarser plastic details on an Il-2 kit with finer metal ones. Working with photo-etched parts calls for tweezers, a sharp blade and patience, but on a finished model the difference is clearly visible.
The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
