1:48 F-16C Golden State Griffins is a decal sheet from the Two Bobs brand with markings for the Fighting Falcons of a California air unit. It is not a model, but an accessory for a kit in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The sheet from the American maker Two Bobs brings markings for the single-seat F-16C of a unit with the nickname Griffins. The epithet Golden State refers to California, whose traditional nickname it is. The package holds decals exclusively — the modeler obtains the plastic Fighting Falcon kit in 1:48 scale himself. The sheet is intended for those who want to build the machine of a particular unit instead of the general markings from the box.
The F-16 is a single-engine light multi-role fighter with a bubble canopy with no transverse frame, which to this day forms the backbone of many air arms. The single-seat C version is the most widespread variant of the later batches. Besides the air force, it is operated in the United States by National Guard units as well, which traditionally keep prominent markings of their own on the fin surfaces — and it is precisely those that tend to be the main reason modelers reach for separate decal sheets.
On a single-engine airframe the procedure is straightforward, but two places give trouble regularly. The first is the fin surface, where a large colored band has to end exactly on the edge; so cut the film close to the artwork and measure the edge out dry before transferring it. The second is the curved transition from the fuselage to the radome, where the film likes to fan out — splitting the element with a cut along a panel line will help. Work on gloss, fully dried surface, soak briefly in lukewarm water and always move a decal on water, never on dry finish. Apply the decal softener only once it is seated, and in a thin coat. Finally clear coat the model matte, so that the gloss intermediate coat disappears and the decals blend with the surface.
A decal sheet, not a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
