A masking set from the QMT brand in 1:48 scale. It is not a model but an accessory for painting: self-adhesive, pre-cut shapes with which the area of the wheel bays is closed off before spraying. According to the name the coverage of the set is wide and aims at the later versions of the Fw 190A series as well as at the derived attack and fighter-bomber F and G versions, which had the same wing arrangement.
The bay of the Fw 190 is fairly large and its outline forms a long curve with a sharper end. A shape like that is exactly what makes masking by hand the most work: the tape has to be nicked into wedges to follow the curve, and every wedge is a potential place for the paint to creep under. A cut mask runs the whole curve in one piece and the edge stays smooth even once it is off.
Before you apply the mask, lay it on dry and check whether the shape matches your parts — between individual kits of the same subject there tend to be differences in the outline of the bay. Adjust any overhang with a fresh scalpel blade, as taking material away is always easier than adding it. Once applied, run a blunt wooden stick around the whole perimeter, and only then reach for the airbrush.
The package contains masks only. The model, the paints and the glue are not part of it.
