A figure of a mechanic of the German or Austro-Hungarian air service of the First World War in 1:48 scale from the Aerobonus range: a resin accessory for a forward airfield of the Central Powers.
Responsibility details are not available.
This resin figure from the Aerobonus range of the Czech manufacturer Aires represents an aircraft mechanic of the Central Powers, and it can be used with machines of both the German and the Austro-Hungarian air service. In 1:48 scale it is exactly the element that turns a biplane model standing on its own into a living scene from a forward airfield.
The ground crew were the invisible heroes of the flying units of the First World War: mechanics maintained rotary and inline engines, tensioned the bracing wires, repaired the fabric covering and prepared the machine before every flight. They worked in simple working uniforms and overalls, often with their sleeves rolled up, a natural contrast to the pilots in their leather gear.
Deburr the casting, wash it and prime it. The working clothes come out well in muted grays and field shades, which a fine wash and drybrushing will turn into worn, dusty cloth. We recommend shading the face with oil paints. The figure is easy to work into a composition with the machine, at work on the engine, with tools or topping up fluids.
The figure is supplied unpainted, as a resin casting to be cleaned up and painted.
