This item is not a model of the aircraft but a masking set from the Ukrainian brand Reskit. The masks are machine cut to the shape of the individual frames and areas, so laborious and imprecise cutting of strips of adhesive tape with a scalpel is done away with. The modeler lifts the individual pieces out of the sheet, sticks them onto the model and sprays the area; once the paint has dried the masks are peeled off and a clean edge is left under them. The set is cut for one particular kit in 1:48 scale, so check before buying that it matches the kit you are building.
The McDonnell F-4B Phantom II is a carrier-based two-seat twin-engine fighter aircraft of the US Navy and the US Marine Corps. It was one of the first production versions of the Phantom, powered by a pair of J79 jet engines. The machine had a characteristic silhouette with the raised outer panels of the wing and the drooping horizontal tail. The canopy glazing on a Phantom is intricate and is made up of several separate parts with pronounced frames, so masking is among the most laborious parts of the build.
Degrease the surface before sticking the masks on and let the paint of the surface dry completely. Lift the masks out of the sheet with tweezers and press them down with the tip of a toothpick or a wooden stick, especially in the corners and on the curves. It is advisable to spray the glazing first with the interior color and then with the base color of the fuselage, so that the frames look right from inside as well. Spray in several thin coats, as a heavy coat of paint can run under the edge of a mask. Peel the masks off while the paint is freshly dry but not yet fully cured, at an angle and slowly.
