Decals in 1:48 scale for the British two-seat fighter Gloster Javelin in its early versions, with three color options from RAF squadrons of the late 1950s.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Gloster Javelin was the first production fighter with a delta wing that the Royal Air Force ever took into service, and at the same time one of the few two-seat machines intended for all-weather combat. The high-set tailplane above the delta wing gave it a silhouette that cannot be mistaken, and a nickname derived from that same shape. It was the early versions that had the most trouble — stalling at high angles of attack and sensitive engines that could flame out both at once.
The sheet offers three particular machines. The first belonged to a squadron based in West Germany and carries a reduced fuselage roundel, so that it fits beside the unit's color bar, plus a sword badge on the fin. That aircraft crashed in June 1958 after both its engines failed. The second and third machines served with the same home squadron in 1957 and 1961, both with a chevron on the fin and the letter code in yellow. On one of them the chevron is joined by the unit badge set in a white disc, so there is plenty on the fin to keep patient hands busy.
These are wet decals printed on a continuous carrier film, so the individual markings are cut out. Before applying them it is best to have the surface gloss, to overcoat with matte varnish once they have dried, and to use a decal softener over riveted areas. The model of the aircraft and its parts are not included in the package; the sheet serves to bring an already built kit in the scale given to life.
