These resin wheels from Brengun are an accessory for a modeler building the British Hawker Hurricane fighter in 1:48 scale. The set replaces the main landing gear wheels supplied in the kit. It is not an airplane model or a kit; the base model has to be obtained separately.
On an aircraft model the wheels are the part that is seen from close up and from below, and at the same time the hardest to make in plastic. The tread pattern, the lettering on the sidewalls and the structure of the hub are always a compromise in a split metal mold, and a wheel from a kit also tends to be glued up from two halves with the seam running exactly across the tread. A resin casting is usually in one piece, so filling the seam is avoided, and it carries finer texture. With wheels there is also often the question of load: the tire of a real aircraft is slightly flattened where it touches the ground, which immediately settles a model onto the ground instead of leaving it balancing on a point.
Wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water to remove the mold release agent and let them dry. On a wheel the casting block tends to run along the flat of the tread, which touches the surface anyway. Cut it off with a saw and sand the remainder flat wet, ideally by running the wheel over abrasive paper laid on glass. Work with respiratory protection. It pays to paint the hub separately and to mask the tire with a circular mask or to go round it with a brush. Apply a primer to the resin first. A tire is not black but more of a dark gray with a hint of brown; pure black looks flat on a model. Fit them to the landing gear legs at the very end, after the model has been varnished.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
