The Junkers Ju 88 started out as a fast bomber meant to outrun fighters. The A-4 version of 1941 received an extended wing, stronger Jumo 211J engines and strengthened landing gear so that it could carry more bombs. It was this one that became the main production form of the type and appeared over Malta, Murmansk and the Kuban. The glazed nose of the greenhouse kind is the most demanding part for a model, because the frames run in three directions at once.
A decal is applied to a smooth glossy surface so that no air is trapped under the carrier film. On matte or grainy paint silvery patches appear. Because of that a model is first given a gloss coat and at the end a matte one again. With a mask this intermediate step is dropped; the marking lies directly in the paint and the finish never has to be taken back.
Mask the divided glazing from the bottom up and every three or four panes check whether the rows are holding the line. Anyone who starts in the middle usually ends up with a shifted frame at the edge. The masks are cut for the cockpit of the Revell kit in this scale. The unused strips will serve to cover the navigation lights.
