Lavochkin UTI La-7 — conversion set 1:48 from the Czech manufacturer AML. Resin parts for converting the La-7 fighter into the two-seat trainer version on which postwar generations of pilots also learned.
Responsibility details are not available.
A resin conversion set from the Czech manufacturer AML in 1:48 scale. It is not a stand-alone model: the set serves to convert a kit of the single-seat Lavochkin La-7 into the two-seat UTI trainer version. The conversion involves inserting a second cockpit into the fuselage, so anyone who has already mastered ordinary detail sets and wants to move up to a real conversion will find the ideal next step here.
The Lavochkin La-7 represented the peak of the Lavochkin fighter line of the Second World War; a lighter and faster successor to the La-5, it counted in 1944 and 1945 among the best Soviet fighters. Ivan Kozhedub, the most successful Allied fighter pilot, also flew one. The two-seat UTI La-7 trainer version served for conversion and continuation training, and after the war the type appeared in the Czechoslovak Air Force as well, so the conversion is close to Czech aviation history too.
The success of the conversion rests on planning: mark out the extent of the cut into the fuselage according to the instructions, and rather cut less and sand more. Fill the inserted second cockpit and seal it around the perimeter, then sand the joint under a light coat of primer, which reveals any unevenness. Glue the resin with cyanoacrylate glue; the finished aircraft comes to life with restrained weathering suited to intensive training service.
An accessory set; this is not a stand-alone model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
