The 1:48 Embraer EMB-312 Tucano Basic masking set contains cut self-adhesive masks in kabuki paper for masking the long glazing of a model of the Brazilian turboprop trainer.
Responsibility details are not available.
This set from New Ware serves for painting a Tucano model in 1:48 scale. The masks are machine-cut from kabuki paper and are stuck onto the clear part so that only the frames take paint. Basic is the smallest of the grades of coverage offered, aimed at the glazing.
The tandem canopy of a trainer runs over a large part of the fuselage spine and is divided into several segments. That means a great many long straight edges that have to be parallel to one another, or the model looks crooked. It is exactly with this kind of glazing that a cut set makes the most sense: each piece is cut for its own segment, the edges follow the engraved frames exactly and the whole canopy is done in a few minutes instead of an evening.
Before you start, try the clear part dry in the fuselage and note its orientation. Apply the masks in order from the largest segments to the smallest and keep checking that the frames line up. Press the edges down with a stick along their whole length, especially on the long straight runs, because that is where paint most likes to creep under. Spray at right angles from above in thin coats. Trainers often have prominent high-visibility areas; those are applied separately and are better dealt with after the canopy mask has been lifted off.
This is an accessory for a model, not the model itself. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
